Our knowledge of tree function and structure combined with extensive training in climbing, rigging, and use of aerial lifts makes Cannon River Tree Care LLC your best choice for the care of your trees, both young and old. All pruning is in accordance with ANSI A300 and ANSI Z133.1 standards. Improper pruning can substantially damage your tree, may reduce its lifespan or render it prematurely unsafe. Members of our tree care team have taken an oath not to perform arborcultural work that is injurious to a tree. This means we will not top your tree, but if height is a concern, there are many other ways to control height or create views without setting your tree up for failure. We prune all types and sizes of trees and shrubs. Whenever possible, we perform maintenance pruning when trees are in winter dormancy. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) groups all pruning types into the following categories: Cleaning: Selective pruning to remove one or more of the following parts: dead, diseased, rubbing, and/or broken branches. Raising: Selective pruning to provide vertical clearance. Reduction: Selective pruning to decrease height and/or spread. Restoration: Selective pruning to improve the structure, form, and appearance of trees that have been severely damaged. Thinning: Selective pruning to reduce density of live branches, resulting in reduced wind loads during storms and periods of high wind. Topping: The reduction of a tree's size using heading cuts that shorten limbs or branches back to a predetermined crown limit. Topping is not an acceptable pruning practice. Vista Pruning: Selective pruning to allow a specific view. We do not prune to "put a lot of brush on the ground", we prune to meet specific goals and objectives. We remove limbs and/or branches for reasons based on tree function and structure and its influence o the landscape. Our intention is to enhance your tree/shrub in the landscape, so that you are struck by its health and beauty, not by the fact that it has recently been pruned. The only trace we leave behind is a healthy tree in the landscape of a satisfied client.
We pride ourselves in having the skill and experience, coupled with good training and proper equipment, to efficiently assess and safely remove hazardous trees without damage to your property. Sometimes that may mean we will be using a crane to safely remove your tree. We have done a lot of crane removals and feel that it is a great way to safely and efficiently remove some trees. Our team believes that performing a well-executed removal involves a thorough clean-up, which usually involves moving the generated wood. Depending on the integrity of the wood, we will leave it, stack it, remove it, or arrange to have it milled by a portable band saw mill, if you so desire.
Stump grinding is a cost effective way of making stumps disappear without using heavy equipment, that often causes damage to adjacent trees and landscape. We have equipment capable of accessing stumps in difficult locations. Stumps, generally, are ground 8-10" below grade and the soil and wood fiber that is produced is left on site or we can also remove the generated debris and replace it with soil and seed it for you. If you prefer to have a new tree planted we can refer you to a nursery who can help you pick out a new tree.
Most trees and shrubs attract or harbor pests - animals, insects, disease, destructive fungi. These normal pests are usually kept in check by natural predators. When this balance is disturbed, we recommend that you tailor a pest management program to your specific needs. The best practice is to create landscapes that are vigorous, drought tolerant, resistant to disease, and free of pests. WE have effective, cost efficient, and environmentally friendly tools to help manage many of the common pests and diseases.
Construction consultation: It often takes five years for the full extent of damage due to construction to present itself in the landscape. This is why we highly recommend that you engage us in a consultation prior to breaking ground on your next project. Whether you are planning a large development, building an addition onto your house, or installing a new landscape, it is important to have the input of an arborist on the design team. We will inventory the trees and shrubs on your site and determine which are potential candidates for preservation. We help define high use areas used for staging materials and equipment and recommend tree protection zones so that the trees being saved are well protected and will flourish in the new landscape. Hazardous tree evaluation: The influence of site factors in the development of hazards is enormous. Most failures occur during storm events with unusual winds, saturated soils, or snow and ice loads. Knowledge of tree function and structure, soils topography, and local climate is critical in assessing failure potential.
Trees grow to maximize their access to sunlight. Without structural pruning early in life, this growth pattern can sometimes crate structural flows such as co-dominant stems and included bark. When these problems are detected early enough, pruning may solve the issue. When these trees are not pruned early and the defect becomes significant, hazard cabling and pruning may be sufficient to reduce the risk. In some cases, however, some trees are not candidates for cabling and tree removal is the only way to minimize the risk they pose. In the last ten years, there had been a shift in cabling practices in this country. This can be attributed to the research in tree failure performed by the late Dr. Alex Shigo and Dr. Claus Mathett. Their research, as well as that of many others, has shown that the static loading caused by rapid tensioning of steel cables in tree canopies can lead to structural failure. In some cases, steel (static) cables are the best choice for the situation, but the majority of the time dynamic synthetic cables, properly installed with shock absorbers, are the better choice. Our tree care team will determine the type of cabling system and design appropriate for your situation.
We truly enjoy designing trails for our clients, so that they too can enjoy the wonders of trees and the outdoors. With our eye for trail layout and our equipment that we can maneuver easily , we will gladly turn your woods into a useful trail system.
